Hello, World: Why This Site Is Plain HTML and CSS

I wanted a personal site and a blog, and I wanted it to be simple. Many developers use their site to show off elaborate frontend work. I'm not doing that.

The stack

I work with React and Node.js during the day and like them, but this site doesn't need them. It's text, links, and a little structure, which is what HTML is for. The pages are plain HTML and CSS with no JavaScript. I use a static site generator, Eleventy, so I can write posts in Markdown and avoid repeating the header and footer on every page, but what gets published is just static files.

Why keep it simple

I wanted a place where I'm not dealing with dependencies, heavy build tooling, or framework churn, and where I can write things by hand.

What to expect

Projects I'm working on, and writing about software, game development with Godot, and other things I'm interested in: video games, movies, TV, anime, comics, tabletop RPGs, and chess. Posts will be irregular.
